Major Events Near Glendale CA + Where to Stay

Last updated Oct. 29, 2026. Visit Glendale CA is an independent local guide and is not affiliated with the City of Glendale, Tournament of Roses, Caruso, Descanso Gardens, LA Zoo, LA Phil, Dodgers, McCourt Foundation, or any event organizer. Dates, tickets, parking rules, and road closures change — always confirm on the organizer’s official page before you travel or book.

Glendale sits in the sweet spot for Southern California event weekends: Brand Boulevard and The Americana for holiday lights and Cruise Night, Pasadena’s Rose Parade and Rose Bowl a short drive east, Descanso Gardens’ Enchanted forest of light up the hill in La Cañada Flintridge, and Hollywood Bowl / Dodger Stadium nights without hotel rates that match Hollywood’s. This guide covers the major recurring and big-ticket events in and around Glendale for late 2026 through 2027, with verified dates where organizers have published them, typical months when next year’s date is still TBA, parking and transit tips, kid notes, and the Glendale hotel pages that fit each trip.

138th Rose Parade presented by Honda — Pasadena

Dates: Thursday, January 1, 2027 · 8:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m.

Venue / route: Starts near Green St & Orange Grove Blvd, then along Colorado Blvd (about 5½ miles), ending toward Sierra Madre Blvd / Villa St, Pasadena

From downtown Glendale: Roughly 15–25 minutes by car in normal traffic — not on parade morning. Expect heavy closures; Metro A Line to Del Mar, Memorial Park, Lake, or Allen stations is the official low-stress option.

Parking & transit: No parking on the parade route. Route closures typically begin 10 p.m. Dec. 31 through 2 p.m. Jan. 1 along Colorado Blvd (Orange Grove to Sierra Madre). Reserved lots sell via Sharp Seating, Colorado Blvd Parking, and City of Pasadena; Metrolink runs special early trains on several lines. Plan overnight or very early arrival if you insist on driving.

Best time / kids: Arrive before dawn for curb space; bring layers, snacks, and a step-stool for kids. Grandstand tickets sell out months ahead. Never on Sunday rule: if Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday the Tournament moves to Jan. 2 — 2027 is a Thursday, so Jan. 1 stands.

Where to stay in Glendale: Base in Glendale the night before, then Metro or rideshare into Pasadena. Strong fits: Hilton Glendale Glenoaks (north side, freeway access), Embassy Suites, Residence Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites. Full list: best hotels in Glendale.

113th Rose Bowl Game (CFP Quarterfinal) — Pasadena

Date: Friday, January 1, 2027 (kickoff / TV TBA on organizer pages)

Venue: Rose Bowl Stadium · 1001 Rose Bowl Drive, Pasadena, CA 91103

From downtown Glendale: About 15–25 minutes without parade/game congestion; allow 60–90+ minutes on game day. Same-day parade traffic makes Glendale hotels a smarter base than trying to “just drive over.”

Parking & transit: Stadium lots (H, 1–4, 6, 8–10 per game-day guide) open early (organizer notes 4:00 a.m. for lots). No overnight parking except designated RVs. Organizers advise arriving in Pasadena before 10:00 a.m. or after 11:30 a.m. to dodge parade-exit traffic from Old Pasadena lots. Shuttle / carpool / Metro + rideshare beat GPS guesses.

Best time / kids: Gates and pre-game activities open hours before kickoff — check the current Game Day Guide. Tailgating culture is family-friendly in many lots, but bring ear protection for kids and a clear bag that meets stadium policy.

Where to stay: Same Glendale cluster as the parade — especially Hilton Glenoaks and Embassy Suites for suites/parking. Book New Year’s Eve / Day rooms months ahead.

Enchanted: Forest of Light — Descanso Gardens

Dates: November 22, 2026 – January 9, 2027 · nightly 5:30–10:00 p.m. · Closed Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving) and Dec. 25 (Christmas)

Venue: Descanso Gardens · 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011

From downtown Glendale: About 10–20 minutes north (near the 210 / 2). One of the closest “wow” holiday attractions to Glendale hotels.

Parking & transit: Free on-site parking (first-come; attendants direct). Timed-entry tickets; popular nights sell out. Route is about 1 mile; stroller- and wheelchair-accessible paths. Cashless venue; no pets (service animals only). Coat weather — it gets cold in the canyon after dark.

Kids: Excellent for families; under 2 free per Descanso FAQ. Preview Party Nov. 21 (fundraiser). Holiday Market Dec. 2–6 on the Main Lawn.

Where to stay: Hilton Glenoaks (closest freeway hop north), Residence Inn (kitchens for post-walk cocoa), The Glenmark or Hyatt Place if you want Brand / Americana the same trip.

Booking-ahead tips (so you’re not stuck on Brand at midnight)

  • New Year’s / Rose weekend: Book Glendale rooms by early fall. Parade + game the same day = full hotels from Burbank to Pasadena.
  • Enchanted & Zoo Lights: Buy timed tickets as soon as your travel dates lock; Saturday nights sell first.
  • Chess Labor Day / late August: Watch glendaleplayschess.com for the Hilton group code; overflow hotels fill with parents and coaches.
  • Cruise Night & Americana snowfall nights: You may not need a room if you’re local — but out-of-town guests should book Brand-corridor hotels the same weekend as summer concerts or Tech Week.
  • Refundable rates: Prefer cancelable bookings until organizer calendars firm up 2027 dates for Cruise Night, Tech Week, Brand Music, and City tree lighting.
  • Transit over parking: Rose Parade (Metro A Line), Hollywood Bowl (B Line + shuttle), and Downtown Glendale events (walk from hotel) beat last-minute garages.
